Health and Safety Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager to join our business. This role will report to the Head of Manufacturing, having overall responsibility for our Health & Safety here at JF Renshaw and Rainbow Dust. Working to develop a strategy in relation to the company Health & Safety Policy and Environmental Policy while advising, supporting and working with the management team to ensure our business operates in a manner which is safe and compliant.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- To advise managers on all general Health & Safety and Environmental improvements and relevant issues at Renshaw, whilst driving improvement.
- To participate and advise in site safety audits and risk assessments as required involving safety representatives to proactively reduce the occurrence of accidents and incidents.
- Ensure Site Projects are risk assessed and carried out adhering to relevant HSE requirements.
- Manage near-misses, and support the investigation, reporting and implementing corrective and preventative measures of Accidents and Incidents, liaising with HR department in dealing with employers’ liability claims as they arise.
- To liaise with external bodies/agencies on Health & Safety and Environmental issues (such as the Health & Safety Executive, Insurance Company, etc.), and coordinate and facilitate unannounced Health and Safety audits from internal/external auditors.
- To keep up to date with relevant Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, ensuring relevant changes are highlighted and acted upon across the Company.
- To manage COSHH legislation and provide advice as appropriate.
- To ensure all necessary documentation and procedures are maintained ensuring compliance with legislation and good practice, e.g. Accident Book and Investigatory Reports.
- To ensure the site has adequate fire protection and that firefighting equipment is maintained and complies with all regulations and procedures in relation to fire evacuation.
- To assist with design and delivery of Health and Safety training, including induction procedures, First Aid, and Fire Warden procedures, and that appropriate records are kept.
- To ensure control and approval of all contractors.
- Control of DSEAR, noise and typical manufacturing environmental challenges and issues.
- Manage the Environmental agenda for the site, meeting customer requirements.
- To ensure control and approval of all contractors.
- To provide monthly reports to the Board on all issues in relation to Health & Safety and Environmental.
- Continue development of employees through training and awareness.
- Improving overall behavioural performance in relation to Health & Safety.
The successful candidate should possess the following attributes:
- NEBOSH diploma or equivalent; membership of the IOSH/CIEH desirable.
- Experience of working a Health and Safety role within a Food Manufacturing environment.
- Experience of working at an Operational level.
- The ability to successfully coach and influence employees.
- The ability to work independently and self-sufficiently to consistently high standards and be able to easily prioritise workload with minimal supervision or direction.
- Experience of internal auditing.
- A good communicator, both verbally and written, with the ability to work collaboratively.
